Why you need Wheel Balancing?
When in
motion, an unbalanced wheel can generate huge forces. These forces aren’t even
and lead to vibrations. This causes premature wear to the suspension system, it also reduces tyre life and causes enough drag to adversely affect fuel
consumption. Due to bad road surfaces, the grip is less secure and your braking
distance may be increased.
More
attention should be given to wheels and tyres as requirements for safe driving.
Tyres are the only components which keeps your vehicle in contact, physically, with
the road surface. They allow you to start, stop and change direction. If we
compromise their ability to do these basic functions we are putting ourselves
and all road users at risk. Neglecting wheel balancing on our terrible roads is
a definite road safety concern.
It might sound futile but there are dangerous around unbalanced wheels.
First of all ignoring the signs might be dangerous and expensive. Steering
components can be damaged and all the parts may fail prematurely in extreme
cases. Unbalanced wheels result in premature wearing of suspension and steering
components, rotating parts and tyres. Wheels that are not balanced or are out
of balance generally produce a vibration that is uncomfortable to drive in and
negatively affects the handling of the vehicle. If long distance trips are
taken this could adversely affect your mood as well. Unbalanced wheels increase
the need for additional energy and increase fuel consumption not to even
mention the severe stress and strains on the wheel bearings and suspension components.
Wheel balancing is one of the recommended services listed in your
vehicle’s owner’s manual from the manufacturers. It is important for assuring
the best performance from a vehicle and for gaining the longest tyre life.
Wheel balancing is often confused with wheel alignment. NOTE that these are two
very different services but both equally important for a preventative maintenance
plan. As you drive your tyres lose balance, correct wheel balancing ensures
that the weight of the vehicle is equally distributed across all the tyres. Over
time, treat wear causes the destruction of weight around the tyres to change,
which leads to the imbalances. This will lead to the most commonly known aspect
of vibrations that starts at the steering wheel that increased the faster you
accelerate.
NOTE: If you like a smooth driving, risk free road trips-then have your tyres checked!
